Clínica da Sé is committed to provide, during your inpatient stay, a comfortable and safe environment for your recovery, with proper medical, nursing, and primary care. We have single rooms and double rooms, all equipped with bathroom, telephone, air conditioning, internet access and television. Each room has a closet and cupboard for storing personal belongings and a nurse call button to call the nursing staff if necessary.

The single rooms are also equipped with a bed for an accompanying person, allowing him/her to stay overnight with the inpatient. Before being admitted, it is important for you to take into account the following: if you are a beneficiary of any health insurance or health subsystem, you should ask your doctor for a report authorizing your admission or surgery, and ensure that it is delivered or sent to Clínica da Sé, so that the co-payment can be confirmed.

During the admission process, you should go to the reception on the first floor where you should identify yourself with your ID card. As a rule, a deposit is requested. Upon admission, it is advisable for you to bring your own personal hygiene items, a nightdress or pajamas, a bathrobe, and slippers.

Avoid bringing valuables, as Clínica da Sé is not responsible for any loss. Once you have been medical discharged, you should go to reception on the first floor to settle your inpatient stay bill.

Neurosurgery is the surgical specialty dedicated to the treatment of diseases and injuries of the central and peripheral nervous system (brain, spinal cord, and nerves), and diseases of the spine of a degenerative (such as herniated disc), infectious or tumorous nature. Dependent upon the nature of the injury or disease, a neurological surgeon may provide surgical and/or non-surgical care. In this specialty, after assessing the patient’s medical condition, tests such as X-rays, ultrasound or electromyography, among others, may be requested.

Ophthalmology is medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the eye and visual system, strabismus, glaucoma, and cataracts, as well as with the treatment of refractive errors such as myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism. Otorhinolaryngology is a medical specialty that covers all age groups and is focused on the study and treatment of pathologies of the ear, nose, and throat as well as the sinuses, mouth, head, and neck.   • Impendandiometry – serves to evaluate the structure of the middle ear (integrity of the eardrum, pressure in the middle ear, movement of the ossicular chain and permeability, of the tube and acoustic reflex).
  • Videonystagmography (VNG) – is the examination carried out in patients with balance changes and which allows the observation and recording of nystagmus, and the diagnosis of these changes.
  • Vestibular Rehabilitation – is a treatment method with different types of exercises to treat dizziness and imbalances, mainly due to vestibular causes.
  • Evoked Potentials – are neurophysiological tests that evaluate the conduction of nerve impulses along the auditory pathway.
  • Otoemissions – test for screening hearing loss recommended for all newborns, being an important early diagnosis of deafness in children.
  • Rhinolaryngoscopy – examination carried out with an endoscope that allows you to view in detail the nasal cavities, rhinopharynx, pharynx and larynx.
  • Skin tests (Prick Test) – examinations carried out on the skin, normally on the arms, to diagnose allergies, allowing a correct choice of the type of treatment to be implemented.

The Smoking Cessation consultation is aimed at all smokers who are motivated to quit, and its purpose is to assess and guide them, so that they are able to do so without difficulty. The health benefits of smoking cessation are numerous, both from a pathophysiological and symptomatic point of view, as they contribute to a significant reduction in the risk associated with most smoking-related diseases.

In our Surgery Unit, Clínica da Sé has a room for minor surgery for outpatient surgical treatment and an operating theater with proper medical and nursing care.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine or Chinese Medicine uses several techniques in the treatment of many pathologies, such as acupuncture, moxibustion, Chinese Phytotherapy, Chinese food therapy, and electroacupuncture. Its practice has no side effects and is considered by the World Health Organization as a complementary treatment. At the first consultation, a diagnosis is made in order to establish the appropriate therapy which will then be carried out.

  • Acupuncture: It consists of the application of very thin needles, perfectly malleable and placed in specific points of the body in order to stimulate them, with the aim of promoting physical and mental balance.
  • Chinese Phytotherapy: is based on the use of medicinal plants for the treatment of certain physiological disorders and the treatment of pathological states.
  • Moxibustion: is a form of therapy that entails the burning of mugwort leaves. Mugwort leaves are dried and ground into small sticks or cones called moxa (similar to incense), which are then lighted and used to warm points on your body and relieve a variety of conditions such as weakness, fatigue, and aging related problems
  • Electroacupuncture: is a modified form of acupuncture that uses two needles. A mild electric current passes between these needles during treatment.
  • Chinese Diet Therapy: is a safe and easy way to help bring the body back to balance. Diet therapy deals with the therapeutic properties of foods, their effects on health, and the therapeutic use of food in the prevention and treatment of illness.

Travel medicine is a specialty that focuses on pretravel preventive care, by providing information on preventive (or curative) measures to adopt before, during, and after travelling, depending on the destination and the person travelling.
The goal of the pretravel consultation is to reduce the traveler’s risk of illness and injury during travel, through medication and/or immunization (vaccination) against multiple diseases of low or non-existent risk in Portugal, as required; preventive counseling and education on individual hygiene and care to be taken with the water and food that is ingested; the advice and prescription for the medicines that the traveler’s can or should take with him/her; and about medical care, accident and safety risks, or other information on the destinations the traveler is traveling to. These consultations are extremely important for healthy travelers, and, in particular, for pregnant women, children, older people, and people with chronic illnesses.

Clínica da Sé offers an ultrasound service. Depending on the examination, you will need to follow these requirements:

  • Abdominal ultrasound: 4-hour fasting period before the examination;
  • Pelvic/Bladder ultrasound: drink 1L of water 1 hour before the examination and do not urinate;
  • Prostatic and suprapubic ultrasound: drink 1L of water 1 hour before the examination and do not urinate;
  • Transrectal prostatic ultrasound: 2 enemas using Microlax®, have a light dinner (the day before the exam) and on the day of the exam have breakfast and a light lunch;
  • Suprapubic gynecological ultrasound: drink 1L of water 1 hour before the examination and do not urinate;
  • Simple gynecological ultrasound: No preparation is required;
  • Renal and suprarenal ultrasound: No preparation is required;
  • Ultrasound of the scrotum: No preparation is required;
  • Thyroid ultrasound: No preparation is required;
  • Ultrasound of the Soft Tissues: No preparation is required
